Questions
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser tab. Your files never reach a server. The app connects only to its own address, to sign you in and check your license, and never sends a workbook.
Which files can I open?
Unencrypted .xlsx files without macros, up to 25 MB each. Save .xls, .xlsb or .xlsm files as .xlsx first.
Do I need Excel, or to install anything?
No. It runs in a current desktop browser on Windows, macOS and Linux. It is tested in Chrome and Edge.
How does it work out each edit’s share?
It recalculates both versions, applies the edits in different orders and averages each edit’s effect, so the shares always add up to the change. Results that use RAND, NOW or TODAY are not split.
Will the numbers match Excel?
Usually. xellshift uses its own calculation engine, so a few results can differ from Excel. It checks every result first and shows any difference on its own row.
Does it replace checking the file myself?
No. It shows you what changed and where to look. Deciding what is right is still up to you.
Is the app in my language?
The app is in English for now. Your file’s contents show up as they are, in any language.
What is free?
Every comparison feature, with no sign-up, and Why it changed on the built-in sample. Why it changed on your own workbooks needs the trial or Pro. Without one, it still shows the total change and its largest driver.
What happens when the trial ends?
Nothing is charged: the trial needs no card. Comparing stays free, and Why it changed on your own workbooks shows only the total change and its largest driver again. To keep using it for work, choose Pro. The trial is once per person.
How do seats work?
A seat is one named person, who can use it in several browsers. Only people who use Why it changed on their own workbooks need one; anyone can compare for free. Buy as many seats as you need on one subscription, then add people and reassign seats yourself. Every seat costs the same.
Can we pay by invoice or purchase order?
Pro is paid by card or PayPal, and every order comes with an invoice. If your organization can only pay against a purchase order, contact us: we invoice annual prepayments from $3,000, and Enterprise is always invoiced.
Can I cancel?
Any time. Your plan runs until the end of the period you paid for, and every first payment has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
